While reading some articles online I came across Vitamins Diary. I thought that they had an excellent post about tips to maintain a healthy diet. Here is my loosely edited version:
To Avoid
- No stimulants such as sugar, coffee, tea, cigarettes, alcohol
- No saturated (animal) fats and hydrogenated (processed) fats
- No simple (refined) carbohydrates, including white bread, biscuits, cakes and other processed foods
- No unnatural additives, flavorings and preservatives
Increase your consumption of
- Dramatically increase your consumption of leafy green vegetables - both as liquid and solid
- Eat more vegetables, raw or lightly cooked (steaming is best)
- Eat more beans, lentils, seeds, nuts and whole grains, especially sprouted seeds and grains
- Eat several servings of fresh fruit every day
- Wherever possible eat organically-grown, natural, unprocessed foods
- Drink plenty of filtered water - best if it is ionized, alkaline water
