Take yourself back to 2004. Meet Mike Kelly and Kevin Schultz, two regular Canadian guys. Both have demanding roles in the business world – one in the organic commodities industry and the other in the food and beverage business. Both happen to be health-conscious parents of active kids. Both live in the same neighbourhood. In fact, they are about to learn that they are neighbours too.
Around this time, Paul Weber (a mutual friend), was helping Mike draft a business plan to fill what Mike saw as a huge hole in the organic food movement – juices for kids and families. Meanwhile, Kevin, an experienced consumer packaged goods marketer was becoming increasingly disillusioned with “big corporate food” and was looking to make a real difference by selling food and beverages that were healthy from the inside out.
Not long after Paul introduced them, Mike and Kevin learned that they shared values around healthy family lifestyles and nature. The more they talked the clearer it became that each was passionate about ensuring their family’s long-term health.
It also became clear that their respective backgrounds gave them the ability to actually do something about it.
